The volunteer crews of the Redcar RNLI lifeboats were called into action yesterday.

Just before ten to one yesterday lunchtime, both lifeboats were launched following reports that five people and a dog had been cut off by tide under Huntcliff.

Both lifeboats were stood down before reaching the scene.

Members of the public are reminded to check tide times before embarking on a beach walk and to call 999 or 112 and ask for the coastguard if you think someone may be in trouble.

A man has been charged with posession with intent to supply class A drugs after proactive patrols in Middlesbrough.

Neighbourhood policing officers carrying out patrols in the area of Ayresome Gardens, recovered suspected crack cocaine and arrested a 22-year-old man, who was subsequently charged.

He appeared at Teesside Magistrates Court yesterday.

Plans to partially convert a former Co-op building in our area into flats have been given the green light.

Members of Redcar and Cleveland Council’s regulatory committee approved the plans at a meeting after they were recommended for approval.

The ground floor of the property currently has a number of existing charity and community uses, including the MFC Foundation and a gym, and will not see any alteration.

The first and second floors of the building in Loftus High Street were previously used as offices.

A dormer extension will be added along with roof lights and 15 self-contained apartments eventually created to occupy the two floors.

Loftus Town Council had objected to the application, stating that provision for car parking was insufficient with only four spaces identified within the plans.

It also said access to the site could be an issue for emergency vehicles with access along an unadopted highway, which was in disrepair and subject to congestion at times.
