Neighbourhood policing officers in Redcar have arrested a wanted man.

The 36-year-old Redcar man who police wanted to trace after he failed to attend court earlier this month was arrested by the town’s neighbourhood officers yesterday morning.

He will be placed before the next available court in relation to a report of theft.

Meanwhile whilst out on high visibility patrols yesterday officers arrested a 53-year-old man who was subject to an outstanding warrant regarding a report of theft.

He will also be placed before the next available court.

Police say that they will continue to pursue those who fail to attend a court appointment.

Two women have been sentenced for their parts in two robberies which took place over two days in February.

42-year-old Joanne Baillie of Elmhurst Gardens in Hemlington, and Christina Youll, 46, of no fixed address, smashed the door to a convenience store in the Hemlington area on 20th February and demanded money from the till whilst in possession of knives.

The women made off with items including alcohol and cigarettes.

Hours later, around 2am on 21st February, the women held a taxi driver at knife point in order to steal money from his pockets on Elmhurst Gardens.

A short time later, the women were located together and were arrested on suspicion of two robberies and possession of a knife in a public place.

Baillie was also arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker after she assaulted an officer in the process of being arrested.

Both later pleaded guilty and were sentenced on Monday at Teesside Crown Court.

Youll received five years and two months in prison for the two robberies and breach of a suspended sentence, whilst Baillie received a sentence of five years and four months in prison for the two robberies.

Police are appealing for any witnesses or people with footage (mobile phone, dashcam or CCTV) as enquiries into a collision in our area continue.

The collision happened at 8am on Monday, as a Skoda travelling eastbound along Ennis Road towards its junction with the Trunk Road was in collision with a motorbike.

The rider sustained fractures to his leg and collar bone after falling to the ground and was taken to James Cook University Hospital for treatment.

A 43-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and on suspicion of causing injury by careless or inconsiderate driving.

He was interviewed and released on bail pending further enquiries.

Any witnesses are asked to contact Cleveland Police on the non-emergency number 101.
