Cleveland Police are investigating after a fire caused serious damage to a Sea Hut on the Esplanade last night.

It was reported just before 10.45pm on Wednesday (22nd July) opposite Pacittos and was attended by firefighters from Redcar Fire Station. On arrival, they found the public shelter well alight and used two hose reel jets to extinguish it.

It's believed that eight male and two female youths had been in the vicinity of the Hut prior to the fire and Police would like to speak to these, or anyone who saw them in the area prior to the incident, as they could assist with ongoing enquiries.

Anyone with information regarding the fire is asked to contact PC Christopher Houseman on the non-emergency number 101, Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or at www.crimestoppers-uk.org.

Today, work has begun to repair the damage caused and the hut (pictured) has been barriered off by Redcar & Cleveland Council.
