Local Plasterer Gets Ready To Represent The UK In São Paulo
Local young plasterer Rob Johns is hoping to be named the best when he competes at the WorldSkills event in São Paulo.
Taking place from 11 to 16 August, WorldSkills is the largest international skills competition. Held every two years, the Competition sees around 1000 young people, aged 18-25, from all over the world come together to compete for medals in more than 45 different skills including Electrical Installation, Welding, Web Design, Cooking and Bricklaying.
Rob was selected to represent Team UK in Plastering and Dry Wall systems after excelling in the WorldSkills UK National Skills Competitions, the finals of which take place at The Skills Show.
Rob said: "Being selected for WorldSkills São Paulo 2015 is an incredible honour and is something I've been working towards personally for over two years. I have spent every spare minute training for the Competition and I am determined to give it my all."
Anna Turley, Rob’s local MP met with him this week saying, “Rob is an inspiration to future generations of the UK's workforce. His achievements prove that vocational learning can lead to great opportunities and successful careers for individuals and businesses. The members of Team UK are ambassadors for our area and our nation and I wish each and every one of them the best of luck at WorldSkills São Paulo 2015.”
By participating in the WorldSkills Competition, the UK is able to share best practice in vocational teaching, raising standards and expertise in further education, skills and apprenticeships on a global scale. Team UK will showcase the UK's world class vocational and further education system by demonstrating their skills in a range of industries at WorldSkills São Paulo 2015.
