Tri Your Best At Redcar's Triathlon
Triathletes from across the country are being encouraged to enter this year's Redcar Triathlon on Sunday 26 July, but there's only four days left to sign up.
Organised by Tri-Hard Events Ltd and in partnership with Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, entries are now live for the challenging event, welcoming up to 200 competitors.
Triathlon is a fast growing, exciting multi-sport event consisting of swimming, cycling and running.
The summer triathlon will be a "sprint" event, which is a 750m sea swim followed by a 20km cycle section along the Esplanade, finishing with a 5km run along the seafront towards Marske and back.
The race is situated on the seafront area of the town, and will take place on a flat, fast closed road circuit using a multi-lap race format, making it ideal for those who are new to the sport.
The event is open to all abilities, from seasoned athletes to those wanting to take part in a triathlon for the first time. A wet suit and roadworthy cycle and helmet are mandatory to take part in the event.
Councillor Carl Quartermain, cabinet member for jobs, skills and leisure said:
"The Redcar Triathlon has become a very important part of the summer calendar in our borough and an event that continually grows year on year.
"It is such an exciting competition and one we all very much look forward to.
"I would encourage anyone, whether you are a beginner, athlete or spectator, to come to the seafront and enjoy this exhilarating sport."
Rob Wilkins, race director said: "The Redcar Triathlon is a rare event as it is a multi-lap course and all on closed roads.
"It's fast and exciting and great for spectating with plenty of action to see, from the sight of around 200 athletes running into the sea together, to watching some real quality athletes as well as the rest of us cycling and running along the Esplanade."
The action starts at 11am on the beach and spectators are encouraged to come along to enjoy the event and support the triathletes.
