Volunteers will be out in force this weekend to pick litter in Marske and give the area a spring clean.

Starting at 10am on Saturday 31 January, the litter pick – organised by Marske Litter Action – will be targeting the playing fields next to the football club.

All volunteers are welcome to attend and contribute to the effort, with litter pickers and rubbish bags provided. If the weather is as forecast, please make sure to dress warmly, wear sturdy footwear and bring gloves to assist in picking up rubbish.

Councillor Christopher Massey, cabinet member for environment and rural affairs, said: “The hard work of all the volunteers who give up their Saturday’s to make sure their local area is as tidy as it can be is very much appreciated.

“Their sense of community pride in making sure their corner of the borough is litter free is absolutely brilliant.”

Volunteers coming down to the event will be covered by insurance provided by the council, they will also be given risk assessment documentation with advice on how to stay safe and, most importantly, warm on what could be a very cold litter pick.
