A drug dealer from Middlesbrough who stored firearms, smoke grenades and ammunition in a safe has been jailed.

34-year-old Martin Lynch, of Hewley Street, was identified as the owner of the safe when it was found to also contain a COVID card with his name written on it.

Also inside was a ‘slam gun’ with a barrel width consistent with .22 rounds, numerous rounds of ammunition, two smoke grenades, a knuckle duster, taser, four live shotgun rounds, a cash box, and cocaine – along with Mr Lynch’s COVID card.

Mr Lynch was then swiftly arrested at his home address on suspicion of possession of a firearm and possession of a class A drug.

A neighbour’s house was then searched by officers accompanied by a police dog who located the safe under the stairs.

Inside the property officers found cocaine worth approximately £2,500 and drug paraphernalia.

At Teesside Crown Court on Monday Mr Lynch was sentenced to nine years in prison after pleading guilty to possession of a firearm, possession of a weapon and possession with intent to supply cocaine, at an earlier hearing.

A man has appeared in court charged with string of offences in South Bank.

Detectives from Redcar and Cleveland CID charged the 29-year-old man with the offences which occurred in South Bank on Wednesday.

He was charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, robbery, assaulting an emergency worker and breach of bail conditions.

The man was remanded in custody to appear at Teesside Magistrates' Court yesterday morning.

A 39-year-old man was rushed to hospital with serious injuries after a late night crash.

A Mercedes was travelling on the A66 westbound carriageway passing through the junction of Cargo Fleet Lane when it collided with a white Ford Fiesta.

Cleveland Police said the crash happened at around 11.55pm on Wednesday when the Ford Fiesta is believed to have failed to stop at a red light.

The force confirmed a 39-year-old man sustained serious injuries and was taken to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough where he is now in a stable condition.

Officers investigating the collision are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and may have dash cam footage or information, to come forward.
