An alleged dangerous driver has been arrested after a late-night police chase in our area.

In the early hours of yesterday North Yorkshire Police officers spotted a Vauxhall Astra in “suspicious circumstances” at on the A172 near Stokesley.

It failed to stop, and headed towards Great Ayton along the B1292 then onto the A173 and A171 heading towards Middlesbrough.

The car was seen to “weave across the road”, cross solid white lines and go the wrong way round a roundabout.

After a pursuit lasting about 15 minutes, a police stinger was successfully deployed, and the car came to a stop.

The driver ran away from the vehicle but was quickly detained by officers.

He was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop, and failing to provide a specimen for analysis.

He was taken into police custody whilst enquiries continue.

Middlesbrough Bus Station had to be closed for a time yesterday after roads in the area were closed following a collision.

Late yesterday afternoon emergency services were called the scene of the two vehicle collision.

Roads around the bus station were closed from Wilson Street to Newport Road and there was no vehicle access to the bus station.

Two vehicles were recovered and two people were taken to hospital.

Details of their injuries have not yet been confirmed.

Redcar and Cleveland Council Cabinet has approval the MFC Foundation's proposal for a state-of-the-art sports village in Loftus.

The council says the proposal marks an exciting step forward for the community, enhancing access to sports, fitness, and well-being facilities.

Ben Scott’s Field, off Westfield Way, is Council-owned, but the Cabinet has agreed to partner with MFC Foundation over plans for a sports venue, with a 3G pitch and 54-space car park.

The council says that the project represents its commitment to improving local infrastructure, fostering healthier lifestyles, and supporting youth development through sport across East Cleveland and the wider borough.
