A new campaign aimed at highlighting the issue of personal robbery and raising awareness of advice which could help deter offenders is being launched by Cleveland Police.
From Monday, digital adverts will be displayed around the Middlesbrough town centre area, with a QR code so people can access personal safety advice; such as using cash machines in well-lit areas and avoiding carrying a wallet in a back trouser pocket.
Cleveland Police takes all incidents of robbery extremely seriously. Whilst incidents of personal robbery have recently reduced, officers are not complacent and are doing everything possible to bring offenders to justice; including regular hotspot patrols and targeting known offenders.
Within the last twelve months, there have been 741 personal robberies recorded, with victims' ages ranging predominantly between 26 and 60; although closely followed by children and teenagers aged 11-17.
With 316, Middlesbrough has the highest number of incidents of the four districts in the Cleveland Police area; above Stockton with 199, Hartlepool which had 123, and Redcar and Cleveland with 103.
Officers have taken another motorbike off the road that was reported to have been used in crime in our area.
The motorbike is suspected of being involved in offences in the Grove Hill and Beechwood areas of Middlesbrough.
The vehicle was located at an address in Easterside following enquiries, and it was then seized by police.
Officers are appealing for anyone with information regarding illegal bikes, where they may be being stored and those riding them, to contact them on the non-emergency number 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
The volunteers of the Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team have been called into action twice in our area.
Just before 2.30pm yesterday the team were called out to a man who was reportedly unwell and unable to continue his walk along the Cleveland Way at Kirby Hill between Lordstones and Wainstones.
Four Team members were deployed from our Base in a Team Land Rover, whilst a number of others made their own way to an RV-point on a nearby farm.
The man was carried on a stretcher for about 400-metres and then taken by Land Rover to a waiting ambulance for further assessment and treatment as necessary.
Then just after 6.30pm the team were called out by North Yorkshire Police, initially to search for a missing person.
The person was located in the Guisborough Woods area.
After being checked over by Team members the person was transported in a Team vehicle to be reunited with a family member.
