A woman is fighting for her life in hospital following a "serious" crash that saw a road closed for several hours.

Emergency services, including the air ambulance, were called to the Stokesley area just before 8am yesterday after a car left the road and collided with a detached garage.

The driver, a woman in her 40s, had to be cut free from the wreckage by firefighters and given medical attention at the scene before being taken to hospital where her condition is described as 'critical'.

The detached garage was extensively damaged in the collision.

Thankfully, there was no one at the address at the time of the incident.

The damaged building has been checked by a structural engineer, and people are advised to keep away from the property for safety reasons.

Police say they are making enquiries after two quad bikes were seized in Eston.

The quad bikes, one of which is confirmed to have been stolen from North Yorkshire in April, were recovered in the Bankfields area of Eston yesterday by Redcar Proactive Team officers.

The officers were conducting further enquiries after receiving intelligence that the bikes had been ridden around the estate in an antisocial manner.

Enquiries into the second bike are ongoing and Cleveland Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them on the non-emergency number 101.

Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council are appealing for the public's help after a fire at one of the seafront shelters on the Esplanade in Redcar.

The fire has caused damage to the woodwork of the shelter, including the walls and the bench seating.

Cleveland Police are investigating and the council says that repair works will begin as soon as possible.

Anyone with any information on what happened is asked to contact Cleveland Police on 101.
