Cleveland Police have revealed that the numbers of commercial burglaries in Redcar & Cleveland has fallen.

Commercial burglary has fallen generally across Cleveland; in June this year there were 51 reported offences, which is 40% lower than June 2023.

Redcar & Cleveland district - which had recently seen a large rise in commercial burglary saw just 12 recorded offences - which is over 29% fewer than last June.

Actively identifying and pursuing key offenders, then achieving charges and remands has been one of the key means of driving down commercial burglaries across our area.

The force also highlighted the value of police and local authority partners sharing information and best practice - as well as working closely with retailers.

Police are appealing for witnesses to a collision in Skelton at the weekend.

The collision occurred on Boosbeck Road at five past ten on Saturday evening, and involved a silver VW Polo, a blue BMW and a grey Ford C-Max.

The incident left the 34-year-old man driving the BMW with chest pain whilst the 56-year-old driver of the Polo suffered a fractured hip and was taken to James Cook University Hospital where he was detained for treatment.

Nobody else was injured in the collision.

Officers are appealing for witnesses to the collision or anyone with dashcam footage of the incident to call the non-emergency number 101.

Local company PD Ports has made its largest ever donation through its employee charity and community fund.

The grant of £7,500 for the purchase of a specialist bed was made following a request by Mike Lee, a business development analyst at PD Ports, who made an application to the company's Find It Fund It initiative after seeing the impact of the work done by Zoe's Place Baby Hospice as they support his four-year-old daughter, Amelia, with family respite care.

His request for help to pay for a specialist, secure bed for the Middlesbrough facility was agreed by PD Ports' chief executive Frans Calje – by far the largest grant awarded in the scheme's history – as a show of support for Mike and his family and to continue the company's long-standing links with Zoe's Place.

PD Ports' monthly Find It, Fund It initiative aims to directly support worthy projects that are close to the hearts of the 1,400 people who work for the company and benefit smaller organisations that might otherwise get overlooked.
