A man has appeared at court after an incident involving a stolen bread delivery van.

Police were notified shortly after 8am on Saturday that a white Iveco box van had been taken from outside Sainsbury's in Dormanstown.

It's alleged it was then driven around the wider Redcar area with the back doors open until it was stopped by Matrix team officers.

The driver was reported to have fled the scene, however he was arrested after a brief area search.

The 24-year-old was interviewed and subsequently charged with theft of motor vehicle and with driving with no insurance.

He appeared at Teesside Magistrates' Court on Monday.

Cleveland Police have issued an appeal after horses were injured following unauthorised riding in Eston.

Cleveland Police has received recent reports of incidents at Eston Equitation Centre where teenagers have attached string to horses and even been seen riding them without the owners' permission.

The incidents were reported at teatime on Friday 26th April and on the morning of 5th May.

Very sadly the animals were later found to have been stressed or even seriously injured by being ridden and required veterinary treatment.

Officers have attended and provided forensic, crime prevention and safeguarding advice.

They are also appealing to parents and carers to check what their children are doing while out of the house and to stress to them that police will identify and deal with anyone causing harm or suffering to animals.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Cleveland Police on the non-emergency number 101.

It's been announced that four rapid response crews are set to be deployed across Redcar and Cleveland as part of a drive to keep the borough clean and tidy and respond to urgent repairs and maintenance.

Starting this summer the dedicated rapid response crews will help improve efficiency and response times across the area and allow the teams responsible for routine maintenance to focus on the work that’s scheduled.

The crews will have a designated area that they will be responsible for which will include Coastal, Greater Eston and East Cleveland, with the fourth providing support and cover across the borough.

When not responding to incidents they will carry out ongoing maintenance and repair work across the area.
