Two people have been taken to hospital following a three-vehicle crash on the A171.

Police, fire and ambulance crews were called to the busy route, near to the Jolly Sailor pub, following a collision just before 3pm yesterday.

Police closed off the road and motorists were told to avoid the area - with pictures showing an air ambulance on a field nearby with a string of 999 teams in the distance.

Cleveland Fire Brigade confirmed it sent four engines to the scene, with two ambulance crews and one clinical team leader from the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) also attending.

Two people have since been taken to the James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough - with their conditions currently unknown.

A man has been charged by Middlesbrough CID officers in connection with two reports of robberies in the Middlesbrough area.

The first occurred close to Akbars Restaurant on Linthorpe Road on 29th April and the second at a Natwest cashpoint on Linthorpe Road on 30th April.

The 42-year-old man appeared at Teesside Magistrates Court yesterday.

Extra CCTV cameras have been introduced to reduce antisocial behaviour in Netherfields.

A week of action in the Netherfields area, carried out by police and partner agencies in response to increased reports of crime and antisocial behaviour, has seen the introduction of nine new CCTV cameras to help tackle issues.

As reports of incidents appear to be reducing and partnership work continues in the area, officers are hopeful that the new cameras are yet another tool to help bring down the number of incidents even further.

During a week of action in the area beginning on Monday 23rd April, there was engagement activity at Vaughan shops and the local schools, enforcement notices issued, eleven Antisocial Behaviour Contracts issued, local pizza shops have agreed not to serve anyone under the age of 18 without an adult present – this has been clearly displayed in the relevant shops, and a property marking event was held which proved successful with good attendance.

Thirteen housing had already been in touch with families in the area to issue warnings to any tenants who have children who have been involved in the antisocial behaviour.
