A man and a woman have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following an alleged stabbing in Grangetown on Easter Sunday.

Police were called to Birchington Avenue at half past midnight after a man was found with multiple stab wounds.

He was taken to the James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

A 20-year-old woman from Darlington and a 21-year-old man from Redcar have both been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

They remain in custody while enquiries continue.

A third dispersal order has been put in place on an estate in our area following reports of increased antisocial behaviour.

The 48-hour dispersal order started on 10pm on Sunday, around the area of Vaughan Shops in Netherfields and will run until 10pm today.

It applies to any public place bounded by Fulbeck Road, Sedgebrook Gardens, Stapleford Road, Midville Walk, Burwell Road, Althorpe Close and Cargo Fleet Lane.

The order gives police powers to ask anyone in large groups to leave the area for 48 hours.

If they return they could be arrested for breaching the order.

Roadworks to improve a busy junction in our area begin today.

Improvement works will start today on the junction of Normanby Road and the B1380 High Street in Normanby which are scheduled to take 10 to 12 weeks, subject to weather conditions, from 7.30am until 5pm.

This will involve replacing the existing traffic signals with new ones, widening the carriageway alongside the small garden on the northeast corner, improving the footway alongside the garden, reconstructing the B1380 High Street and resurfacing Normanby Road and Cleveland Street on the approach to the junction.

For safety reasons, Cleveland Street and West Street will be closed to and from the High Street for the duration of the scheme and a diversion route will be in place.
