A man will appear in court today following a number of alleged incidents of theft from shops in our area.

The 20-year-old man, who is from Eston, is charged with eight offences of shoplifting and has been remanded into custody.

He's due to appear at Teesside Magistrates' Court later today.

It's been revealed that crime rates are falling in Middlesbrough as the second anniversary of Operation Fortress takes place and officers and partners continue to tackle crime and antisocial behaviour.

Dedicated operations are being carried out around the Middlesbrough area in order to reduce violence, ASB, drugs activity and other crime as well as officers carrying out daily hotspot patrols.

This proactive work by police and partners is evidenced by a 9% reduction in crime across the whole of Middlesbrough in 2023, when compared to 2022.

A 20% reduction in crime was seen in the Hemlington area over the same period.

Operation Fortress was launched in February 2022 in the Hemlington area; which see’s police and partner agencies including Middlesbrough Council, Cleveland Fire Brigade and housing associations join together to tackle crime and antisocial behaviour.

It's been announced that another community safety drop-in session is taking place later this month.

The community safety drop-in session is coming back to the Rediscover Redcar Office on West Terrace, from 1pm to 2pm on Tuesday 12 March.

It's an opportunity for local residents to talk to staff about their concerns and comments about how safe they feel in our local area.

If you have any concerns about safety in the area, go along to the drop-in session to discuss with the staff members who will be on hand and will be happy to answer any questions and offer advice.
