A school was put in temporary lockdown after a pupil found a 'live bullet' on the playground.

Cleveland Police were called to Handale Primary School, in Loftus, at around 11am yesterday after a Year 3 pupil discovered the bullet during a break.

The school was placed under temporary lockdown while the emergency incident was dealt with by officers.

The school says the bullet had been taken to the army base at Catterick for testing by experts, who have confirmed it was live.

An investigation is now understood to be underway to determine where the bullet came from.

A problem property in Guisborough has been ordered to close after reports of anti-social behaviour.

The flat at Helmsley House was ordered to close for three months by magistrates last Thursday following reports of residents being plagued by anti-social behaviour.

Officers from Redcar and Cleveland’s Neighbourhood Policing Team worked closely with council officers on the application following intelligence from the community.

The order means the tenant must not enter the property and it will be inaccessible to anyone for three months.

Three men have been arrested after police and partners conducted an operation across Redcar & Cleveland as part of ongoing work to tackle so-called vehicle "chop shops".

Officers set up a checkpoint on the outskirts of Marske, and several recovery type vehicles were stopped by officers to allow for documentation checks, whilst a further four were directed into the DVSA checkpoint at Longbeck Nursery due to concerns around their conditions.

All four of these had defects which needed to be rectified immediately.

Three men aged 28, 45 and 68 were arrested on suspicion of conspiring to steal motor vehicles.

They were interviewed then bailed pending further enquiries.

A suspected stolen car was also seized; officers are conducting further enquiries to identify where it’s from and who owns it.
