A man has died following a collision in Eston yesterday morning.

76-year-old Michael Walsh, from Eston, was involved in a collision with a white Ford Transit van, around 7:55am on Fabian Road near to Eston Labour Club.

He was taken to the James Cook University Hospital where he was sadly pronounced deceased.

A 59-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless or inconsiderate driving and he remains in police custody at this time.

Any witnesses to the incident or anyone with dash cam footage which may assist the investigation is asked to contact Cleveland Police on 101.

The volunteer crew of the Redcar RNLI lifeboat were called into action yesterday lunchtime.

Just after twenty five to two yesterday afternoon the Atlantic 85 lifeboat was launched to assist with a Police incident at the Newport Bridge in Middlesbrough.

The lifeboat remained on station at Newport until the incident was resolved.

The crew then returned by car to the Redcar lifeboat station, cold and exhausted after five and a half hours on the river.

The Atlantic lifeboat remained berthed on the Tees, at the Harbour Masters office, as the sea was deemed to be too rough to carry out a safe recovery at Redcar.

An in-depth look at creating a tunnel under the River Tees to slash journey times and offer better access to jobs has been unveiled.

A package of £1million for work into a Tees Tunnel will be included in a huge cash boost for transport in the coming weeks.

Pipelines north and south of the river already exist to support major industry, but this new study would examine the viability of creating a tunnel link for motorists, pedestrians, cyclists, and freight.

The project has the potential to radically slash journey times between Hartlepool and Redcar – and give residents north of the Tees better access to jobs at Teesworks, and a huge boost to major businesses on the banks of the river.

A full list of proposed schemes will be subject to approval by voting members of the Tees Valley Combined Authority Cabinet later this month.
