A man who brutally murdered and tried to cut up his friend has been jailed for at least 18 years.

37-year-old David Thompson-Love, used knives, a can of food, a kettle and potato peeler to kill Maurice Bennett at a block of flats in Ormesby on 7th April this year.

Teesside Crown Court heard that 54-year-old Mr Bennett, who was disabled, had been tied up and suffered more than 60 injuries in the attack.

Mr Thompson-Love was jailed for life, with a minimum term, after pleading guilty to murder.

He must serve a minimum of 18 years and four months before being eligible for consideration for parole.

The volunteers of the Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team have been called into action in our area.

The Team provided assistance to the Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust on Thursday night at a difficult to access property near to Danby.

Owing to the nature and location of the call the team were able to deploy just limited resources with one local Team member attending and another one arranging for a local 4x4 driver to assist.

Just over one-hour after the original call the patient was on the way to hospital.

Residents in Loftus are being warned of roadworks in the town centre which start on Monday.

The works will be taking place along Zetland Road in Loftus, between the Job Centre and the Stone Masons Bank areas, on both sides of the street, and are expected to last approximately 10 weeks.

Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council say that they don't anticipate temporary traffic lights on the scale previously seen in Loftus during the recent works undertaken by Northern PowerGrid, however it will require the return of traffic management, in order to ensure they are progressed in a safe manner.

The roadworks are part of the major regeneration works taking place in Loftus to improve the High Street for the benefit of both local people and visitors.
