A motorcyclist is in a critical condition in hospital after crashing into a wall.

At around 6.30pm on Sunday, the 21-year-old rider was travelling south along the B1257 between Chop Gate and Fangdale Beck, in the direction of Helmsley, when he collided with a wall.

The man - who was riding a red Honda CBR600 bike - was airlifted to the James Cook Hospital, in Middlesbrough, with serious injuries.

North Yorkshire Police said he remains in hospital in a critical but stable condition.

Officers have now launched an appeal asking for anyone with information to come forward.

A man has been taken to hospital with a head injury after a street brawl broke out in Acklam.

Police and ambulance crews were called to Acklam Road, near Acklam shops, after a fight started at around ten to eleven on Saturday night.

A 20-year-old man was left with a head injury and was taken to the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough by ambulance crews.

Cleveland Police has confirmed it is now investigating and has asked anyone with information to get in touch.

Redcar and Cleveland councillors have agreed a motion proposing an outright ban on the handing out of live goldfish as prizes at fairs and events on local authority land.

The motion by Skelton East Conservative councillor Justin Thompson called for the swift introduction of a policy to explicitly ban the use of live animals as prizes and to establish rigorous monitoring and enforcement measures.

It was prompted by the RSPCA’s 'NoFunAtTheFair' campaign, which launched in June, which has been backed by a number of local councils across the UK.

The Animal Welfare Act 2006 made it an offence for anyone believed to be under 16 and not accompanied by an adult to be given an animal as a prize.
