Heavy rain caused major problems in our area over the weekend, with flooded homes evacuated and traffic chaos.
While heavy rain fell across the whole of our area, East Cleveland was the worst hit, with reports of flooded homes and roads in areas such as Loftus and Skinningrove.
Some people in Loftus and Carlin How also had to be evacuated from their homes.
The Skelton Brotton bypass road was also flooded under the railway bridge just past Skelton Asda, and there was also flooding in Saltburn, at the car park of the Saltburn Miniature Railway.
There were also difficult driving conditions near the riding school in and out of the town.
Partner agencies worked across the weekend to ensure that everyone is safe.
A police cordon was erected after a grenade was discovered on a residential street.
Cleveland Police, along with a Military Explosive Ordnance Disposal team, were called to Bath Road in Eston on Sunday morning after a report that an old grenade had been unearthed.
The cordon was taken down at around 12.45pm after experts concluded that it was not a live grenade and not a safety risk to the public.
A local councillor has praised crews from Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council after they worked hard to assist people in our area during this weeks heavy rain.
The crews worked hard to provide sandbags to a number of residential areas as well as several businesses to keep the flooding risk to a minimum.
The Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, Cllr Carl Quartermain, thanked Council staff for their efforts.
In the coming days the gully sucker crews will continue to jet and vacuum the debris from the gully pots across the borough, as well as checking all the screens and grids, which prevent debris from entering culverts in watercourses.
