A man has been charged with five burglaries following a number of incidents reported in Guisborough.

The incidents occurred on Westgate in the town centre between Friday 12th and Monday 15th May.

The 25-year-old man was remanded in custody to appear at Teesside Magistrates' Court yesterday morning.

A further arrest was made on Wednesday night by neighbourhood officers who were out on patrol across Guisborough.

A second 25-year-old was arrested on suspicion of burglary, and he remains in police custody at this time.

A man has been arrested after two officers were assaulted at an address in North Ormesby.

Officers attended an address in the North Ormesby area after a call for assistance around 4am yesterday.

Whilst at the address, a male reportedly became aggressive and one officer was bitten by a male, whilst another officer suffered a leg injury. Neither required hospital treatment.

During the incident, officers located and seized a number of bags of suspected cannabis.

A 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of two counts of assault on an emergency worker, common assault, criminal damage and possession with intent to supply class B drugs. He remains in police custody at this time.

The latest demolition on the former Steelworks site did not go exactly to plan - due to complications with the explosions.

Yesterday afternoon the Incinerator Stack at Teesworks in Redcar was set to be blown down in a controlled explosion.

Just before 2pm, a spark was seen at the base of the Incinerator Stack followed by a loud bang, but it remained standing.

Around 10 minutes later, a second attempt was made to bring the huge structure down with long yellow guide ropes, but to no avail.

The flare stack is the latest demolition on the Teesworks site, along with the Coke Ovens Screen House, the iconic Blast Furnace and the Blast Furnace Stoves.
