Six people have been summonsed to court after they were reportedly using mobile phones at the wheel to film emergency services dealing with a four-vehicle collision in our area.

The collision, which took place on Wednesday on the A174 near Greystones roundabout, caused significant traffic disruption leading to the closure of the Eastbound carriageway for more than two hours.

One woman had to be removed from her vehicle by fire brigade colleagues and was then taken to James Cook University Hospital to be checked over.

Fortunately, no serious injuries were suffered by those involved.

However, whilst officers were at the scene, six drivers were reported to be using their phones at the wheel to film the emergency services whilst dealing with the incident.

Those who do break the law can receive penalty points and a fine or potentially a driving ban.

A cannabis farm believed to be worth up to £129,000 has been seized by police in Middlesbrough.

154 plants were seized at a property on Borough Road after a call was made to police regarding suspicious activity in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Electricity at the property had been bypassed and there were over 50 mature plants and approximately 100 smaller plants which are now seized.

No arrests have been made at this time, however, enquiries are ongoing.

Delegates from the National Piers Society will be descending on Marine Parade, Saltburn this Sunday, as part of their tour and celebration of UK piers.

The visitors will be greeted by the Town Crier and the Saltburn 500 Club with residents and visitors to the town being invited to wear Victorian or Edwardian costume and provide a traditional warm Saltburn welcome.

They will find out more about the history of the pier, the cliff lift and the pier arcade as well as enjoying what the town has to offer, including the Saltburn miniature railway and the mini golf course.

2023 has been designated the year of the pier by the National Piers Society which was established in 1979 to help protect the remaining piers in the UK.
