Voting has been taking place in local elections in our area.

The polls were open until 10pm yesterday, and for the first time, voters also needed to take a photo ID when they went to cast their ballot.

Local elections were held here in Redcar and Cleveland, and also in Middlesbrough and Stockton.

Each council will be re-electing all of its councillors.

In Middlesbrough, there has also been a mayoral election.

Vote counts for Redcar, Stockton and Middlesbrough council seats will start this morning and the results will come in throughout the day.

A total of £600,000 has been allocated to fund much needed improvements in Saltburn.

Redcar and Cleveland Council’s cabinet recently approved the allocation which was made available from the Tees Valley Combined Authority in order to “enhance the visitor experience”.

However a report noted that “it is likely the current budget envelope will not be sufficient to deliver all of the works that have been identified”.

A masterplan, which is being drawn up, anticipates a range of improvements being delivered across the foreshore area of the town with high priority items being addressed this year.

The main areas targeted for works under the masterplan will be the main Promenade and Marine Parade and the footpaths and bankside that link the two, Hazel Grove, where picnic tables could be added, The Pier Car Park area, The Boat Park area and adjoining Promenade, Saltburn Bank and the Saltburn Road area around Car Nab Car Park, and the entrance ways to the Valley Gardens.

A large wooden owl which was taken from a village in our area has been found.

As we reported on Zetland FM on Monday, the owl, which is about 50cm tall and is one of several placed around the village, was taken from Saltburn Lane in Skelton.

Posting on social media yesterday, Cleveland Police revealed that owl has now been located.

Officers have thanked everyone who shared the appeal.
