A man has been arrested after armed police were called to an incident in South Bank.

Just after 11am yesterday, officers attended the Normanby Road and King Street area after reports that a man was armed with an offensive weapon and had struck another man's vehicle, made threats towards him, and then driven off.

An area search was launched by Cleveland Police, and a 26-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident.

He was taken into custody for questioning while the force continue its enquiries.

The Chancellor of the Exchequer Jeremy Hunt has been visiting our area.

Jeremy Hunt spent time at Redcar & Cleveland College, speaking to staff and students and was also taken on a low key tour of the college.

Mr Hunt, who was in the area ahead of next month’s local elections, was accompanied by Redcar MP Jacob Young and Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen.

Residents of our area are being reminded that local elections are taking place in a couple of weeks.

Elections are happening across England on Thursday 4 May.

If you are voting at a polling station, then you will need to bring photo ID with you, such as a driving licence or passport.

If you don’t have photo ID, you can apply for one for free on the Electorial Commision website, at electoralcommission.org.uk
