Police have issued an appeal for information after a man was assaulted in Eston.
Just before midnight last night on Sunday police were contacted by ambulance service colleagues who reported a man had sustained a severe head injury after being assaulted.
The 59 year old man had been out in Eston and was walking on the Black Path when he was attacked by three unknown males who jumped out at him from behind a bush or tree.
The victim managed to make it to a nearby address to raise the alarm and was taken to James Cook University Hospital for treatment.
He is now recovering at home.
The assailants were described as wearing black clothing and balaclavas.

At around 9.15pm on Sunday a blue Triumph Sprint motorbike, ridden by a 35-year-old man in hi-vis and a white helmet, collided with a parked car on Orchard Road in the town.
The rider sustained significant head and facial injuries and a fractured left collarbone and was taken by ambulance to James Cook University Hospital where he remains receiving treatment.
A school in our area had to close it's doors to pupils yesterday following a flood.
Pupils at the Mo Mowlem Academy on Corporation Road in Redcar were told to stay at home yesterday due to the flooding.
Now the school has confirmed that they will be open as normal today for all staff and pupils.
Posting on social media, the school said that they are sorry for any inconvenience caused yesterday.
