A veteran who has devoted decades of his life to serving the British Legion, has been recognised as a community champion by the Prime Minister at a Downing Street reception.
The Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, welcomed Redcar's Eric Howden and his wife, June, to Downing Street on Wednesday.
Eric was nominated for a Community Champion Award in recognition of his tireless efforts to support his fellow veterans by the MP for Redcar, Jacob Young.
The 78-year-old served in the British Army before retiring in 1970 and joining the British Legion. Working as a volunteer, Eric has been a key figure in supporting The British Legion's mission to provide support to serving and ex-serving personnel and their families.
