A £2.7m scheme to extend a special school on the outskirts of Redcar has been hit by delays.
It was hoped the work on Kirkleatham Hall School, which began in November 2021, would be fully completed by September this year in time for a new intake of pupils.
But while two new classrooms have been completed and are now fully occupied, other elements at the front of the school such as improvements to the main hall, which will see it double in size, and offices have still to be finished.
Redcar and Cleveland Council said an extended archaeological investigation had been required with underground obstructions also being uncovered during groundworks, which meant a structural steel frame and drainage elements had to be redesigned.
A much loved library and community hub at the heart of the community has opened its doors once again after a major refurbishment.
Ormesby Library opened in the 1960s but closed at the beginning of August last year for refurbishment after becoming tired and dated.
Yesterday people had their first chance to see it transformed into a modern library and vibrant community hub the whole community to enjoy.
It's hoped the only community building in the Ormesby ward will see increased use as a library but also as a centre for the people it is there to serve with a wide range of activities.
It's Holocaust Memorial Day today, and residents are invited to a ceremony in the Garden of Remembrance to commemorate those who lost their lives during the Holocaust.
The ceremony will start at 10am and will involve prayers by the Reverend Rebecca Haughty, reading of poems by Mr Eric Howden, Chairman of the Redcar British Legion, Last Post and Silence and laying of flowers at the Holocaust tree.
The Garden of Remembrance is on Coatham Road in Redcar, opposite the Cenotaph.
