Cleveland Police have issued a further reminder to motorists not to leave their vehicles unattended with the engine running when de-icing cars.

Two cars were stolen yesterday morning in the Grove Hill area whilst their owners had left them unattended with engines running and keys in the ignition whilst defrosting.

Both vehicles were found abandoned a short time later.

Officers say that you should not leave your vehicle unattended, even for a few seconds.

Simply running back into the house to collect something could give thieves enough time to strike, and if your car is stolen in these circumstances, insurance claims could be invalid leaving you without a car and out of pocket.

Quad bikes which were seized by Cleveland Police have been destroyed as part of a crackdown on illegal and antisocial riders.

A total of six quads were crushed at a facility on the Trunk Road on Thursday, as Chief Constable Mark Webster vowed to continue the force’s proactive work.

The quads were seized and crushed as part of Operation Endurance – an ongoing campaign which tackles anti-social behaviour caused by off-road bikes in local communities across our area.

As part of the operation, the force launched ‘Back on Track’ which sees young people engage in a six-week educational programme to enhance their knowledge on bikes and quads.

The scheme has been developed by Cleveland Police and will be funded by the area’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Steve Turner.

Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council have apologised after teams were not able to collect all the bins due to be emptied yesterday.

Due to freezing temperatures in the past few days causing icy road conditions, a number of streets in our area haven't had their household or recycling collection as planned:

These include parts of Brotton, Lingdale and Loftus, and the current plan is to collect the bins this morning assuming that road conditions have improved overnight.

The council have apologised to any residents who have been affected.
