Emergency services were called to a new-build housing estate following a suspected arson attack.

Three fire engines were sent to put out a fire on the Elderwood Grove estate in Hemlington just after 4.20pm on Sunday afternoon.

A large amount of building material and plant machinery was alight on the site.

Firefighters spent more than three hours putting out the flames at the building site on Hemlington Grange Way, which is owned by Taylor Wimpey.

A spokesperson for Cleveland Fire Brigade said there were no workers on site at the time of the incident.

The fire service said they have informed Cleveland Police that the blaze is believed to have been carried out deliberately.

Police have carried out a drugs warrant and recovered suspected drugs and a knife.

Neighbourhood officers attended the property on Boswell Street in Middlesbrough early yesterday morning.

A quantity of suspected class A and B drugs were seized along with a large knife and mobile phones.

A 24-year-old woman and two 17-year-old males were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A drugs.

All were taken into police custody.

Two teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of drugs offences and suspected drugs recovered in Coulby Newham.

Neighbourhood team officers detained a 19-year-old man who sparked suspicion when he ran from them on Tollesby Bridge on Friday.

A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of class B drugs.

A subsequent house search on Tollesby Bridge resulted in the recovery of further suspected class B drugs and a 15-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of possession of class B drugs.

Cash and drugs paraphernalia were also seized.

Both males have been released under investigation whilst enquiries continue.
