A woman has been released under investigation after being arrested on suspicion of a public order offence in Guisborough.

The arrest follows reports that a car followed children home from school in the Teesside area.

The female motorist was also reported to be acting suspiciously around schools in Guisborough.

Officers from Cleveland Police detained the 67-year-old woman on suspicion of dangerous driving and also on suspicion of a public order offence.

She was taken into custody on Tuesday evening, but was then released pending investigation.

The public have been reminded by the force to contact 101 if they see any suspicious activity, calling 999 in an emergency.

 

Tributes have been paid to a young man who died in a crash on Dixons Bank.

27-year-old Malik Ameer Abbas died in the crash on the A172 on Tuesday night.

He was reportedly working as a taxi driver in Middlesbrough.

Malik was driving a Volkswagen Passat when he was killed in the collision with a Mercedes C220.

The 32-year-old driver of the Mercedes was taken to James Cook University Hospital by ambulance where he remains in a critical condition.

Anyone with information on the collision or who saw the Mercedes prior to the incident is asked to call Cleveland Police on the non-emergency number 101.

 

A deep clean is taking place on selected streets in Guisborough today.

The deep clean will be carried out on Wilson Street, South Street and Thomson Street between 9am and 2pm.

In order to allow the Neighbourhood Team to carry out a thorough clean of these streets, residents are being asked to utilise any off road parking to ensure access is available for cleaning equipment.
