A court has heard how a teacher from our area drove on the wrong side of the road whilst more than three times over the legal limit for alcohol.

Teesside Magistrates' Court heard how 53-year-old Amanda Mcclean, from Marske, drank a bottle of wine in the morning before getting behind the wheel of a Peugeot car.

She was then spotted weaving around on the road by a family in another vehicle.

Ms McClean pleaded guilty during a previous hearing to driving with excess alcohol in her blood, and the judge said he had taken into account her guilty plea at the first opportunity and her character.

She was given a 12 months community order and banned from driving for 40 months.

The defendant was also fined £270 and ordered to complete 15 rehabilitation activity requirement days.

She must also pay the court £85 costs and a £95 surcharge.

A warning is being sounded to motorists and other road users over the dangers posed by dazzling low winter sun.

Drivers can find themselves temporarily blinded by the seasonal glare, putting themselves and others at risk.

Cleveland Road Safety Partnership is urging drivers to be prepared for conditions believed to have caused one fatality and left 148 people injured - 29 seriously - over the last four years.

Most of those injured were car occupants, but many were also cyclists and pedestrians, with all age groups affected.

Saltburn is the location for the next covid 19 vaccination clinic.

With the steep rise in infection rates seen over the festive period, many people have been unable to get their Covid jabs or boosters.

However, anyone hit by the virus who had a positive test result or developed symptoms between Christmas Day and 27 December, is now free to get their jab - and can do so today at Saltburn Cricket Club – whether that's a first or second dose, or a booster injection.

People with a positive result who tested positive between Christmas and New Year or at the start of January can attend a clinic at Redcar & Cleveland College this coming Friday 28th or Monday 31 January.

No appointments are necessary and these clinics are not just for those recently affected by Covid.

All who need a jab or booster are encouraged to attend.
