Council safety wardens have uncovered one of the worst fly-tipping incidents seen in Middlesbrough.

A "number of people" have been identified and are under investigation following the find - which includes possible asbestos - at the old Turford Social Club in Brambles Farm.

Large amounts of household waste, building materials and household appliances were ditched at the site, while unused buildings were filled with rubbish and set on fire.

The dangerous dumping ground was discovered by Middlesbrough Council's Environmental Neighbourhood Safety Wardens.

Unfortunately for the perpetrators, a council spokesperson said, officers also found "several pieces of evidence linking back to individuals in Middlesbrough, Stockton and Redcar and Cleveland".

All of the individuals have been visited and are assisting the council with its enquiries.

Police investigating the murder of Teesside dad Carl Eland have charged a woman with assisting an offender.

24 year old Samantha Reader is due to appear at Teesside Magistrates Court on Friday, January 21, 2022.

Two men have previously been charged with the murder of the 37-year-old, from North Ormesby.

Carl died in James Cook Hospital five days after he was hit by a car while riding his bike in Pallister Park on August 21.

People requiring Covid-19 vaccinations are being advised to avoid disappointment this Christmas and to protect yourself and your loved ones by getting vaccinated.
