A drugs operation worth almost half a million pounds has been discovered in a terraced house in Ormesby.

Cleveland Police found 864 cannabis plants at a house on Norcliffe Street in North Ormesby on Monday.

The plants, which were seized by officers, had a potential value of up to £450,000.

Bags of compost were also removed from the property and donated to local allotments.

A council's decision to shelve long-standing plans to revitalise Eston Precinct has been slammed by the Redcar MP, Jacob Young.

As we reported on Zetland FM yesterday, Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council has announced that plans for a multi-million pound revamp of Eston Precinct have been withdrawn after considering future costs.

The decision has been slammed by Redcar MP, Jacob Young, who said he would be holding "forthright talks" with council leaders to find a solution.

Mr Young says he now wants the Council to use compulsory purchase orders where landlords' demands are unreasonable.

Plans to prevent speeding motorists from hitting speeds of 144mph along an accident hotspot have been welcomed by a local MP.

Simon Clarke, the MP for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland, has been calling for action on the A171 Guisborough Bypass since July after he received data from Cleveland Police which revealed the extent of speeding on the route.

Mr Clarke requested the figures following a series of serious and fatal accidents on the A171 including two fatal collisions in 2019 and another in March 2020.

The data from Cleveland Police showed that over a six-day period in July 2019, 100 vehicles a day were recorded at speeds exceeding 90mph.

On average ten motorists a day were recorded at speeds of over 110mph while the maximum speed recorded was an extraordinarily dangerous 144mph - more than double the 70mph national speed limit.
