A local MP has called for Redcar to become the location of the UK's first hydrogen village trial.

If successful, the trial would see a residential area of Redcar converted to hydrogen in place of natural gas. This would involve properties in the trial area having new boilers installed free of charge to facilitate the change in fuel supply.

Earlier this year, Northern Gas Networks launched a world first trial in South Bank which tested the viability of using hydrogen in an existing gas network.

But in Parliament this week, Redcar MP Jacob Young called for his constituency to become the location of the UK's first trial of functioning hydrogen-fuelled homes.

A campaign to improve road safety across Redcar and Cleveland was launched at a meeting of Councillors from across the borough yesterday.

Roads that are earmarked for road safety improvements as part of the campaign are the Coast Road from Redcar to Marske, which has seen a number of accidents over the years, the A171 Guisborough Bypass, where monitoring by Cleveland Police will increase and improvements will be made to the lay out of the road to improve road safety.

The Council will also work in partnership with Cleveland Fire Brigade and Cleveland Police and adopt the EDWARD model meaning ‘Every Day Without A Road Death’ which will be promoted to community groups and in schools across the borough.

A main road in our area had to be close after an accident yesterday evening.

The A173 was closed in both directions just before 5.30pm yesterday due to the accident involving two vehicles between Pinchinthorpe Hall and Bousdale Farm.

The incident affected traffic between Guisborough and Great Ayton.

It is not know if anyone was injured.
