People in Redcar and Cleveland have been urged to remain cautious, consider maintaining safety restrictions, get vaccinated and receive their booster jabs when eligible, as the number of cases of Covid-19 in the area remains at a high level.

The borough was this week ranked among the areas with the highest number of Covid cases in the country, with a rate above 400 per 100,000 people.

The most effective way you can keep yourself and loved ones safe from the virus is to get vaccinated if possible.

Also, if you’re eligible for a booster jab, please make an appointment as soon as possible.

There are no trains operating from Middlesbrough railway station today as essential signalling work takes place.

Around six miles of signalling equipment will be renewed, with control of the signals moving from two traditional signal boxes to Network Rail's purpose-built Rail Operating Centre in York.

Two signal boxes - Middlesbrough, just outside the station, and Whitehouse, near Middlesbrough Dock - will be demolished as part of the work.

In order for engineers to carry out this work safely, the line will be closed from until Monday, with no trains to/from Middlesbrough station.

Bus replacement services will keep passengers moving during this time.

Passengers are advised to check their journey via National Rail Enquiries or with their train operator and allow plenty of time.

Residents in our area are being encouraged to apply for the Household Support Fund.

On 30 September 2021 Government announced the Household Support Fund of £500 million to be distributed to local authorities in England to provide small grant assistance to low-income households over the winter period.

The scheme is open to low income working age residents of Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council who are householders.

The funding is for the period 6 October 2021 – 31st March 2022.

To apply for the Household Support Fund, visit the Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council website.
