The latest figures show that the covid infection rate in two parts of our area has risen above 1,000.

According to the latest figures from Public Health England, the Guisborough West and the Boosbeck, Lingdale & Easington areas have seen a dramatic rise in infection rates.

The Boosbeck, Lingdale & Easington areas currently have a rating of 1,179.4 - and has 75 total cases. That equates to approximately an infection for one in every 84 people.

The Guisborough West rate is also high, with a current rating of 1,042.8 and has a total of 66 cases.

The data has been collected by Public Health England in the seven days leading up to October 20.

Roads policing officers are issuing a warning that dark, creepy costumes can lead to danger on the roads, as statistically more accidents happen on Halloween.

Over recent years, reports of serious and slight injury collisions have been up to 400% higher on Halloween nationally.

In Cleveland, there were 15 serious or slight collisions on 31st October between 2016 and 2020 and in Durham there were 19 on the same day.

In order to help reduce the number of collisions, roads policing officers are reminding drivers to be more aware of young people who may be out trick or treating and may be in costumes which reduce visibility and are dark in colour.

A local councillor will be sleeping rough for 12 nights in November to raise money for armed forces charities.

In the run-up to Remembrance Sunday, and beginning next Tuesday, Cllr Barry Hunt will spend a night on the streets at 12 different Redcar and East Cleveland war memorials, in aid of SSAFA – the Soldiers’, Sailors’ and Airmen’s Families Association.

It is not the first time Cllr Hunt has raised money for our armed forces and veterans, having previously completing an 11-night sleepout whilst Mayor of Redcar and Cleveland, and raising a total of £15,500.

If you would like to support Cllr Hunt, there are full details on the Zetland FM Facebook page.
