Local MP Simon Clarke has been appointed as chief secretary to the treasury, as part of Boris Johnson's cabinet reshuffle.

Clarke has been an MP since 2017 and represents Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland.

He will take over the role from Stephen Barclay, who now replaces Michael Gove as chancellor of the duchy of Lancaster and cabinet office minister.

The chief secretary is responsible for public expenditure including spending reviews, strategic planning, public sector pay and pensions, procurement and getting value for money in public service.

Other responsibilities include looking at spending issues related to trade, transport policy, infrastructure spending and capital investment.

Police are once again appealing for footage after a crash outside a local hospital left a driver with severe leg injuries.

A man had to be cut free from a silver Vauxhall Astra by firefighters after it collided with a bronze BMW 3 series.

The crash happened at the traffic lights outside the main entrance of James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.

Following the incident, which took place at around 8.10pm on September 6., the driver of the Astra was taken to hospital.

They were detained for treatment after suffering severe leg injuries and bruising.

Cleveland Police said the 23-year-old male driver of the BMW was arrested on suspicion of driving offences.

He has been released under investigation whilst enquiries continue.

Detectives investigating a report of a man hit by a car in Grangetown are now asking for anyone who hasn't already spoken to police to come forward.

The incident was reported on Tuesday September 7, at 8.55pm. It was reported that a man in his 40s was struck by an unidentified car which mounted the pavement outside Eston Labour Club in Fabian Road. The man required hospital treatment for his injuries.
