A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after another man was left fighting for his life in hospital after being hit by a car in Middlesbrough.

A 37-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman were both riding pedal cycles on Homerton Road at Pallister Park on Saturday evening, when they were reportedly hit by a white Vauxhall Insignia.

The vehicle did not stop at the scene.

Following enquires, officers believe the collision was a "deliberate act" and arrested a 20-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder.

The male casualty suffered serious head injuries and was taken to James Cook University Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

The woman suffered minor injuries and was released from hospital following treatment.

Investigations are being carried out after a community facility in Skelton was vandalised.

Volunteers at the Ringrose Orchard in Skelton took to social media to express their upset following the incident at the weekend.

A litter bin and a bench seat were deliberately overturned at the orchard, and a seat had lettering carved into it despite having had a number of coats of protective paint.

CCTV in the area is being reviewed in order to try to find the people responsible.
