A man was arrested after a report of a burglary in progress in Hemlington.

Police were called to Cresswell Close around 9pm on Thursday.

Gas pipes had been cut in the property, resulting in the evacuation of neighbouring properties until the gas was isolated.

Cleveland Fire Brigade also assisted at the scene.

A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary dwelling and theft and was taken into police custody.

 

63 speeding drivers have been stopped so far during a campaign aimed at tackling speeding offences across Cleveland and Durham.

Cleveland and Durham Specialist Operations Unit are taking part in the national campaign in conjunction with the National Police Chief's Council aimed at targeting speeding motorists, which runs until Sunday 8th August.

Officers are using the campaign to carry out high visibility patrols to deter and detect those drivers carrying out speeding offences.

Excitement is building as the final preparations are made for welcoming Britain’s fastest professional cyclists to Guisborough next weekend.

More details have been revealed about what to expect from the televised Tour Series 2021, set to take place next Sunday 8 August.

It’s a 3pm start time for the women’s race, followed by the men’s race at 4:30pm.

Prior to this, a range of activities will kick off in the town from around 12 midday until 6pm.
