The volunteer crew of the Redcar RNLI were called into action in our area at the weekend.

The crew were called just before 3.30pm on Saturday after five people became stranded in a broken down boat at Redcar.

Those on board the boat were able to restart the engine so the Redcar inshore lifeboat escorted the boat until it was decided to tow the boat towards safety.

The five on board the boat, who were all wearing buoyancy aids, were taken ashore at Redcar while the town's larger lifeboat towed the boat to the South Gare where it was recovered.

Officers are appealing for information following a fail to stop collision in East Cleveland.

At approximately 11.20pm on Friday a man was walking eastbound along a footpath on Margrove Road at Boosbeck when he was struck by a car travelling from behind him.

The vehicle, which was possibly a white Ford, was then driven from the scene, leaving the 32-year-old on the ground with head, neck and upper body injuries.

He was taken to James Cook University Hospital for treatment.

Police are appealing for the driver of this vehicle to come forward, as well as any witnesses or anyone with information.

Officers can be contacted on the non-emergency number 101.

A 13-year-old female pedestrian suffered minor inquires as a result of the collision, but the driver of the vehicle left the scene without checking on her or providing details.
