A person has had to be cut free from a car after a crash in central Middlesbrough.

Emergency services were called to the smash at the junction of Ayresome Street and Linthorpe Road at around 6.30pm yesterday.

Multiple fire engines were sent to the scene and blocked off the road.

One person was taken to hospital by paramedics following the single-vehicle collision.

Cleveland Fire Brigade confirmed it attended the incident and remained at the scene for over an hour.

An inquest has heard that a woman took her own life at Huntcliff amid a long battle with her mental health and upset over a house move.

Kathryn Gleeson was found at the bottom of the cliffs at Saltburn by a passing dog-walker on November 27, last year.

The 53-year-old had recently moved from Hartlepool to Pelaw in Gateshead, but had felt the move was a mistake and had spoken to her doctor a day before her death and indicated she wanted to take her own life.

The inquest into Ms Gleeson's death was held at Teesside Coroner's Court yesterday.

A post-mortem found her medical cause of death to be from multiple injuries.

An impressive sculpture marking the 50th anniversary of the Boulby mine in East Cleveland has been unveiled.

The sculture was designed by local artist Katie Ventress and was constructed at her Hinderwell studio close to the mine.

It includes a statue of a miner carrying the type of equipment used in the early days of mining at Boulby.

The sculpture marks 50 years since mining began at Boulby, and is sited opposite the mine on the Cleveland Way National Trail.
