A man has sustained head and potential spinal injuries after falling down a slipway at Redcar beach.

The incident happened on Saturday afternoon near to the Beacon, with RNLI lifeguards and a UK Coastguard team responding to help.

As volunteer crews assisted the injured man, a woman also had to be treated nearby after complaining of back pain.

The teams, along with a lifeboat crew, responded to the first incident at around 1.20pm after a man had fallen down the side of the slipway near the Beacon, sustaining head and potential spinal injuries.

The man was stabilised before he was placed on a spinal board and carried to a waiting ambulance and taken to hospital for further treatment.

The woman was given pain-relief gas at the scene and did not require any further medical attention.

The man was taken to hospital for treatment.

Officers remained at the scene and in the area whilst investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the assault.

The RNLI at Redcar have warned the public to take extra care after a rockfall occurred at Huntcliff at Saltburn at the weekend.

On Saturday afternoon a large rockfall was seen by people on the beach at Saltburn and Redcar, with a large cloud of dust rising from the scene captured by members of the public on photos on social media.

Posting on Facebook on Saturday, the Redcar RNLI warned the public that the cliffs at Saltburn are unstable and that this is clearly a substantial fall.

The advice is to take care if you go anywhere near the bottom or top of the cliffs and if you spot an emergency dial 999 and ask for the coastguard.
