Detectives are investigating three apparently linked robberies in which shop staff reported being threatened with a syringe of what was claimed to be "blood" or "acid".
They're also conducting inquiries into an alleged theft which they believe is linked.
The incidents were reported to have taken place at Tesco Express on Longlands Road in Middlesbrough on Friday, the One Stop Shop on Kings Road in North Ormesby on Saturday and at Cooplands Bakery on Norfolk Place in Middlesbrough, also on Saturday.
Officers also received a report of a theft of confectionary at Annabelle's in North Ormesby on Saturday and the description of the suspect matched the ones from the robberies.
Thankfully no members of shop staff suffered any injury during any of these incidents however they were left extremely shaken.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Cleveland Police via the 101 number, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
A busy road in our area was closed after a motorcyclist was taken to hospital.
Emergency services were called to the scene at the roundabout which links to Lingfield Way and Newham Way in Coulby Newham at just after ten past ten yesterday morning.
The air ambulance was called in, along with Cleveland Police, and also the force's Collision Investigation Unit and the North East Ambulance Service.
The ambulance service confirmed that the motorcyclist had reportedly "fallen from his bike" and became "unwell".
The patient was transported to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.
The volunteers of the Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team were called into action at the weekend.
The Team were contacted just before 10pm on Saturday following a report of a man semi-conscious in Abbot Hag Wood near to Rievaulx Abbey, a few miles west of Helmsley.
An ambulance crew was in attendance but needed help moving him to the ambulance due to his location and the hilly, woodland terrain.
Two Team Land Rovers with medical and rescue equipment on board were deployed.
Team members then used casualty bags and a rescue stretcher to transport the man to a waiting ambulance, which then took him to hospital.
