A court has heard how a drunk-driver who took to the roads following an argument with his girlfriend caused the death of a man after smashing into the back of his car.

Callum James Pearson had been drinking whisky whilst on a night out with his partner and friends in Hartlepool on March 8th last year.

However after an argument with with his girlfriend, the 29-year-old decided to drive 40 miles back to his home in Liverton Mines, despite being almost double the drink-drive limit.

THe court heard that Mr Pearson hit speeds of over 95mph in his Audi RS4 before he collided into the back of Andrew Ainsworth's Seat on the A171 Guisborough bypass at around 2.25am.

The force of the crash shunted the father-of-three's car off the road, through a hedge and into a field, with Pearson fleeing the area on foot.

Mr Ainsworth sustained "catastrophic injuries" and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Yesterday Mr Pearson pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving at Teesside Crown Court and was jailed for more than six years.

Two men have appeared in court after being charged with multiple alleged offences including motor vehicle interference, theft from motor vehicle, burglary and attempted burglary.

The pair, aged 31 and 46, were arrested in the Stainton area of Middlesbrough this weekend after reports of suspicious males and were charged with a total of 13 alleged offences.

They are due to appear at Teesside Magistrates Court today, Monday 10th May.

Shoppers have been reduced to tears by an opera singer's free street concert in our area.

Nicola Mills was singing classical favourites outside Sainsbury's in Saltburn at the weekend, including Nessun Dorma and Time To Say Goodbye.

The talented singer has spent the summer giving performances on request, outside the homes of people who have been 'stuck in' during lockdown.

Fans of her performance have posted their praise on social media.
