Votes have been counted from yesterdays local elections here in Redcar and Cleveland.

The Conservatives have held Hutton, Longbeck and Guisborough wards, according to a tweet by local MP Simon Clarke.

The Conservatives have also made gains in Stockton and it would appear are also on course to gain Hartlepool, according to the latest reports.

In the Tees Valley Mayoral election the counting is taking place this afternoon.

Ben Houchen is expected to retain the post, after a poll earlier this week had him well ahead.

Police have seized more than £100,000 worth of cannabis from a property in Middlesbrough.

Officers from Middlesbrough Response were called to a report of a burglary at a property on Parliament Road in Middlesbrough on Wednesday evening at around 11pm.

On police arrival, officers discovered a large amount of cannabis at the property estimated to be worth around £100,000.

The cannabis was seized and enquiries are ongoing.

A man's body has been discovered in a flat in Middlesbrough after concerns were raised for his welfare.

A crime scene investigation van, two police cars and an ambulance were seen on the street outside the flats on Grange Road, near Teesside Magistrates' Court in central Middlesbrough, at about 3.30pm on Tuesday.

Cleveland Police say they attended the address after concerns were raised regarding the welfare of a man.

Officers attended a property and found the body of a man aged in his 40s.

The man’s family have been informed, the death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the Coroner.
