A court has heard a man and a woman admit to attacking a 63-year-old in Redcar.

The man stepped in after seeing a girl involved in an altercation on Redcar High Street in March 2019.

He said he tried to help but a gang of youths chased him and beat him up by punching and kicking him.

He suffering a fractured eye socket, severe bruising, a leg injury and lost two teeth during the incident, which occurred outside Specsavers on March 27, 2019.

Following the attack, two women and a man were charged with grievous bodily harm with intent and they appeared at Teesside Crown Court on Friday.

The judge adjourned the case so pre-sentence reports could be prepared for all three defendants.

They will return to the court in Middlesbrough to be sentenced on June 18.

The Redcar Coastguard Redcar Team have been called into action in our area twice over the Bank Holiday weekend.

The team were paged just before 1pm on Saturday to reports of two surfers stuggling to get back ashore in Saltburn.

The Redcar RNLI lifeboat was also prepared to launch.

On route to the station word came that the surfers had managed to reach the shore safely and the lifeboat and coastguard were stood down.

A short time later, at around 2.30pm on Saturday, the team were again called into action to reports from Coastwatch Redcar of people possibly cut off at the East Scar in Redcar.

On arrival it was established that the people were in no danger and safety advice was given regarding tides around the scars in Redcar.

Members of the public are reminded that if you see anyone in trouble on the beach or cliffs you should dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

Dog owners are being reminded of restrictions on walking dogs on beaches in our area.

As we get closer to summer Redcar and Clevelend Borough Council are reminding dog owners that as of 1 May dogs are not allowed on Redcar Beach on the stretch between the Regent Cinema and the slipway, and Saltburn Beach on the stretch west of Saltburn Pier.

Signs are in place to show where dogs can be walked in order to ensure that everyone can enjoy the beach.

The restrictions are in place until 30th September.
