The volunteer crew of the Redcar RNLI lifeboat was called into action in our area yesterday.

Just after twenty to two yesterday afternoon, the Redcar D class lifeboat was launched to assist two girls who had been cut off by the tide at Redcar.

The girls were spotted by a concerned member of the public, near the Beacon, who raised the alarm.

They were rescued by the lifeboat crew and were given first aid for cuts.

The lifeboat then returned to the station at Redcar.

Roads policing officers are issuing a warning after a number of drivers suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs were arrested over the weekend.

On Saturday afternoon, at around 2.30am, a Ford Fiesta failed to stop for police on Cargo Fleet Lane.

Officers pursued the vehicle until two males abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot on Normanby Road.

Both men were later arrested, and officers recovered a large amount of cash and cannabis.

Meanwhile on Sunday morning, at around 10am, a member of the public reported concerns for the manner of driving of a Peugeot 307 which left a petrol station in Grangetown.

Officers located the car abandoned after it failed to stop for police and a 32-year-old man was arrested and charged with failing to stop for police and driving under the influence of alcohol.

The man will appear in court in April.

A second man was charged on Sunday after a vehicle was stopped on the Trunk Road in Dormanstown around 12:30pm.

A 40-year-old man was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving without insurance. His vehicle was seized and he will appear in court in April
