A further 239 new coronavirus cases have been confirmed on Teesside.

The latest Public Health England figures show that Stockton saw the highest increase of 87, whilst Hartlepool also had a noticeable increase in cases with 53.

In Middlesbrough there were 50 new cases, whilst here in Redcar and Cleveland there have been a further 49.

Police are reminding members of the public to be vigilant after recent incidents where cold callers have asked residents for large deposits to carry out work on broken roof tiles.

The incidents happened on Friday and Sunday in North Ormesby and Berwick Hills, and on each occasion the cold callers suggested £1000 deposit, with the final work estimated to cost in the region of around £3000.

Anyone who may have information regarding these incidents, or anyone who thinks they may have been a victim of a cold caller, can call Cleveland Police on 101.

The booking system at Dunsdale Recycling Centre has been made a permanent feature.

The system has been in place since 6 November when essential sewage works were being carried out near the site affecting the entrance road.

This was then extended over the Christmas period, one of the busiest times of the year for the site, in an effort to try and reduce queues on the main highway.

Due to the system being well received by residents and staff members, as well as contributing to a safer environment for those who visit, Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council has taken the decision to keep the booking system in place.

Appointments are available from 8am to 5pm, seven days a week, and can be booked on the council's website.
