Teesside has seen one of the largest daily rises in the number of people testing positive for Coronavirus, with 613 new cases.
Stockton saw the biggest daily rise with a further 177 new cases recorded across the borough.
In Middlesbrough there were a further 156 new cases, whilst here in Redcar and Cleveland there were a further 122.
A man has died following a house fire in Grangetown.
at an address on Clynes Road in Grangetown, Middlesbrough. Officers were called to the address on Clynes Road at around 8am on Tuesday morning to reports of the fire.
Cleveland Fire Brigade attended and dealt with the blaze.
Firefighters rescued a man from the building where he was then treated by a North East Ambulance Service crew, however he was sadly pronounced dead shortly after.
The fire is currently being treated as unexplained and a joint investigation is underway between Cleveland Police and Cleveland Fire Brigade.
A post mortem was due to take place yesterday, detectives believe they know the man’s identity, however formal identification has not yet taken place.
Police are appealing for information to identify a man after a knifepoint robbery in a store in Middlesbrough.
The incident happened on Christmas Eve, at around 7:15am at the One Stop Shop on Eastbourne Road when a male suspect attended the shop armed with a knife and attempted to take cash.
The suspect then left the store and attempted to take car keys from a member of public. This was unsuccessful and the male then ran off in the direction of The Vale.
