Another 249 people have contracted Covid-19 on Teesside as the area is expected to move into Tier 3 restrictions.

Figures released yesterday by Public Health England have shown significant increases in all four local authority areas.

Stockton has recorded the highest increase in positive coronavirus cases with 98.

In Middlesbrough there have been 61 new cases, whilst here in Redcar and Cleveland there have been a further 49.

Details have been unveiled about a mass testing plan set to come to Redcar with the help of the Army.

Redcar MP Jacob Young has revealed more on how the testing will work, starting from November 23rd.

Residents in the TS10 postcode will be invited to get a test whether they have symptoms or not - with the Army establishing testing sites across the town.

Mr Young confirmed that nobody would be forced to take a test - and the Army “wouldn’t be knocking on people’s doors”.

It is understood that Redcar will be one of three towns across the country involved in the trial.

Police are continuing their crackdown on vehicles being driven illegally on roads in our area.

A blue Ford Fiesta vehicle was recovered by Redcar Neighbourhood Officers on Wednesday night on Turner Street in Redcar.

The driver was reported for driving offences after it was discovered that the vehicle was being driven with no insurance.
